Welcome to the memorial page for

Brenda J. Williams

August 1, 1953 ~ September 2, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Brenda J. Stilkey Williams of Freeport passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after complications from cancer treatment overcame her.  Born in Brunswick, Maine on August 1, 1953, the daughter of the Donald C. Stilkey and Evelyn Prout Stilkey.  Brenda grew up and lived her entire life on the Prout Rd., in Freeport, graduating from Freeport High School in 1972.  Her first job, while in high school, was at Derosier’s Market, and after graduating went on to work at LL Bean, Eastland Shoe, Dave’s  Alignment Service (her late brother, David’s business) and then opened her own daycare from her home where she lovingly cared for dozens of children over the years.

Brenda received great joy from being a grandmother.  Near a day went by in the past 20 years where Brenda wasn’t nurturing, helping or teaching something to one of her grandkids.  They were her pride and joy and brought her great happiness and she was their Gamma.

Brenda was more than a daughter, wife, sister, mother grandmother, aunt or friend.  Many in her life turned to her for counsel.  Her ear was always open to someone in need, no matter how great or small.  She was a prayer warrior and kept an extensive and ongoing list of those she was praying for.  Even when she was fighting for her life, she was still praying for others and not concerned about herself.

Brenda had an unfaltering belief in Jesus Christ.  She enjoyed worshipping God and studying the Holy Bible.  It was through this that she drew her strength and wisdom.  Believers in Christ and those who were searching often were inspired and uplifted by Brenda’s faith and knowledge of God’s Word.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ronald E. Williams, son, Jeremiah (Jay) J. Rumery and wife Andrea Rumery of Freeport and daughter, Bethany D. Rumery Bennett and husband, Paul S. Bennett of Freeport. Immediate family includes, mother, Evelyn Prout Stilkey Cray of Freeport, and siblings, Brian Stilkey of Bath and Christopher Stilkey and wife Lori Hixon Stilkey of Freeport.   She leaves behind grandchildren, McKenzie Rumery of Richmond, Miranda Rumery of Freeport and Jillian, Elise and Tiernan Bennett of Freeport.

Brenda is predeceased by her father, Donald C. Stilkey of Freeport, her sister, Donna Stilkey Ringrose of Bath, brothers, Donald Stilkey, Jr. of Freeport, David Stilkey of Freeport and her beloved cat, Todd.

A visitation period will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Gray on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 11 a.m. to Noon. A Funeral will immediately follow officiated by Pastor Sandy Williams of Freeport, her pastor of over 37 years.    Brenda’s wish, as expressed to her Granddaughter, Jillian, was that everyone was to be brightly dressed (no dark colors) and she wanted people to be happy and celebrate her life.
