Donald "Scotty" O'Donnell

January 8, 1930 ~ January 2, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Westbrook-Donald Edward O’Donnell, 87,   born January 8, 1930 to John Sr ad Angela Connolly O’Donnell. He grew up on Munjoy Hill in Portland along with two brothers and one sister. He grandfather Patrick Connelly gave him his nickname, “Scotty” Everyone called his “Scotty” to the except his mother and sister Frances. He graduated Cheverus High School Class of 1948 . He married Joyce Richmond in 1951 before going into the U.S. Army. Scotty was stationed at Fort Less, Virginia were their first daughter, Kathleen was born. After serving in the U.S. Army Scotty returned to Maine. He then started his career as an Insurance Adjuster.  He lived in Lincoln, Augusta, and Portland, where is second daughter, Jane was born.  They then moved to Gray where they lived for 31 years. In Augusta he served as the Post Commander of the American Legion Fitzgerald Cummings Post # 2. Scotty enjoyed Life and People.  He loved working with wood, playing poker and shooting pool with friends, hunting, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, planning Cheverus Class of 1948 Reunions, and Family Gatherings. Scotty also spent time as a Volunteer with the Gray Rescue. At age 50, Scotty went to work at Pineland Center as a caregiver. This work he really enjoyed

 

Scotty was predeceased by his two brothers John Jr. and Joseph. Two sisters, Frances and Mary.

 

Scotty is survived by his wife Joyce. Two daughters; Kathleen Genna and Husband Joseph. Jane Brackett and Husband Steven. Two granddaughters; Alyssa Daigneault and Husband Aaron. Angela Foy and Husband Kevin. Four Grandsons; Roger, Andr’e  Vachon, Eric Bracket, Aleix Vachon and his wife Danielle, Alan Brackett and his wife Kelly. Ten Amazin Great Grandsons. Three Special Nieces; Karyn, Joyce, Colleen. Many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. 

Scotty passed away January 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.

 

We would like to send out a special recognition and thank to the wonderful staff of VNA Home Health Hospice and the Veterans Administration in Portland. Memorial Donations may be send to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at www.alz.org.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11a.m. Saturday January 20, 2018 at St. Gregory’s Church. 24 North Raymond Road, Gray. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.
