Gayl Ann Arey Johnson, born by Shirley & Galen Arey on July 15th, 1959 in Charleston, South Carolina, passed away after a long fight with diabetes on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at Maine Medical Center. She is survived by her husband Dennis Johnson and daughter Anastasia Johnson. She also leaves behind her three sisters, Gina Huff, Sue Arey (James Small) and Diana Roberts (Christopher Roberts); her beloved nieces Amanda Huff (Timmy Weber), Belinda Arey (William Curran), Cassaundra Huff, Chaelley Zinchuk (Brian Zinchuk), Brenna Clauson, Sophie Glidden and nephews Stephen Thurston (Sabrina Thurston), Timothy & Chance Weber, Jaden Thurston, Corey & Mike Johnson, Mahlon Glidden, Jackson & Caleb Zinchuk, James & Jacob Johnson, and Christopher Jr., Kenneth, and Charles Roberts. Gayl graduated from South Portland High in 1977 and continued on to CNA classes. She worked at the Barren Center Nursing Home for roughly 20 years as a CNA as well as in adult day services. Gayl was passionate about volunteering and taking care of children. She joyfully took all of her daughter's friends and cousins under her wing and helped raise so many of children she encountered. She volunteered at Russel School, was a Small School soccer coach and was also a coach of Little Lady Dribblers for several years. Gayl also loved puzzles, the arts, literature, needle point animals, and hosting parties to surround herself with the ones she loved.
