Kelly Ray Obituary

Kelly Annette Ray
October 21 1978 – February 2 2024
45 Years Old

New Gloucester, Maine - We are saddened to announce that Kelly Annette Ray, left this Earth for the
big, beautiful land above due to complications during a routine procedure to improve her dialysis access.
She was tired and fought her kidney disease for far too many years. She is now pain free and whole, and
no longer suffering. She is in the arms of our Dad, our Pa, our Marcy and all of those who arrived before
her.
Kelly was such a positive, loving girl with a heart of pure gold. She always had a smile on her face and a
loving hug for all of her family and friends. She was not dealt the best hand of cards in life but she had
the most beautiful poker face. You would never really know how much pain she was truly in. In 1988,
shortly after tragically losing our Dad, she had a tree climbing accident and she lost her left hand ring
finger. She was 9 at the time. She was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital where they were unsuccessful
at reattaching her finger. It was there that her kidney disease was discovered. She had the first of three
kidney transplants total in 1996 which was donated by our cousin Shona. She had so many other
surgeries, procedures, and hospital visits in Maine and in Boston that we lost count.
Kelly graduated from Gray New Gloucester High School in 1997, from Andover College in 2010 with an
Associates in Early Childhood Development. She held various jobs throughout her life. She served
custard at Hodgman’s Frozen Custard, she worked with kids at Hyde and Seek Child Care Center, she was
a Nanny at Miss Kelly’s Nanny Service’s, she was a Domestic Diva for C&M Domestics, and she was a
bartender at The American Legion Post 86 in Gray.
She was a member of The American Legion Post 86 in Gray. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles 4131 in New Gloucester. She was a diehard fan of the show Friends and knew every episode by
heart. She loved everything purple, her favorite color. Kelly was so brave and so strong. She was so
proud of the strength of our Mom and us girls, especially Marcy. She never complained except when she
wasn’t able to work. She loved her bartending job and loved the camaraderie of her Legion family.
Kelly was unable to have children of her own but she adored all the children in her life. Her nieces and
nephews brought her so much joy and she was so proud of them, often sharing that love and adoration
on her facebook page. The arrival of her great nephews and niece were the biggest blessing for her and
she couldn’t wait for the arrival of two more great nieces this summer.
Kelly was a social butterfly that loved to get together with family and friend. One of her favorite things
to do was sing and dance to the music of our cousin Noni and her band Northern Groove.
She met the love of her life, Shawn Leavitt in June of 2015 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4131. She
loved to get all dolled up for the annual conventions that the Eagles had. Kelly loved all the fur babies in
her families, but her own, Luna and Smokey were extremely special to her. Luna spent many hours
sitting on Kelly’s lap while she did home dialysis. She loved to cross stitch and made many gifts for family
and friends.
Kelly was predeceased by her Father, David C Ray; her sister Marcy Ray Mains; her Pa, David L Wing;
Shawn’s Mom, Rhoda L Leavitt; Maternal and Paternal Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousin DJ Ray.

Kelly is survived by her Mom, Marilyn Ray Wing; Dad Larry Peaco; The love of her life, Shawn Leavitt and
their fur babies Smokey and Luna. Her sisters Christy Ray and her fiance Howard Shaw; Heather Ray and
her fiance Bruce Trafford; Tracey Ehnstrom and her husband Sven Ehnstrom. Nephews Cody Walker and
his girl Allie, Owen Ehnstrom, Noah Ehnstrom, Cooper Mains and his fiance Gracie; and Eric Estabrook.
Nieces Kelsea Tar and her husband Kevin Tar; Emma Mains and her man Matt York. Great nephews and
niece Wyatt, Weston, Rowen and Meadow. Grandmother Mavis Peaco. Step brothers Tony Wing, Rob
Wing, and Todd Wing and their families. Our very special Brother/Cousin Tony Ray and his wife, our
special sister/cousin Liz Ray and their children, Charlotte and Calvin. Shawn’s Father Donald Leavitt Jr,
and his sisters Traci Dempsey and Julie Leavitt. And of course, an enormous amount of other aunts,
uncles, cousins and friends that are way too numerous to put here.
