Rita Trask Obituary

Rita Lillian (Courbron) Trask, 2/26/1935 - 3/27/2024, 89, Gray, Maine

Rita passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.

She grew up in Danville, Maine attending Auburn schools.

Rita married S. Everett Trask in 1971, combining their two families including her 3 children and his 4 children.

Rita and Everett shared 48 wonderful years together.  They enjoyed many adventures together including trips on their Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping, fishing, and boating at their summer camp on Belgrade Lake.  They also shared a love of animals: several beagles, a goat called “Spike” and their beloved kitty, Johnny.  They also enjoyed the company of a heard of deer and a flock of turkeys that frequently visited them at dinner time at their home on Ramsdell Road in Gray.

Rita had an amazingly strong work ethic; starting her first job in a shoe factory after completing the 8th grade.  She continued on with a variety of interesting jobs over the years, including waitressing, bar tending, security at Zayres Department Store, and running the operations for R&E Transport, the trucking company she and Everett started in 1979.  Rita ran a tight ship; the books were balanced to the penny and the trucks were spic ‘n span cleaned every weekend.  She and Everett treated their drivers like family, often feeding them a home cooked meal and offering them a bed or couch to sleep on if/when needed.

Rita liked to look her best.  Her hair was always in place with her signature swoop, makeup just right, pretty blouse, skirt and nice shoes.  She could be ‘spicy’ but she was always a ‘lady’.

Rita spent countless hours in her gardens planting and pruning.  She took pride in making her property look nice.  She enjoyed the fruits of her labors from the windows on her sun porch.  She also enjoyed visiting the small frog pond Everett build at the back of their property where lily pads and bull frogs were in plenty.  In the later years, she enjoyed watching the birds from her recliner by the slider in her living room with Johnny in her lap.

Rita was a woman of many talents: cooking, sewing, crochet/knitting, embroidery to name a few.  She had an artistic hand and could make anything pretty!

Christmas was Rita’s favorite holiday.  She would spend the entire day cooking and cleaning to welcome family, friends, neighbors and any wayward soul that didn’t have family or a place to celebrate.  All were welcome!  She put on the best Christmas festivities and may have even donned a Santa suit a time or two.
