Barbara Gennette Smith
Heaven gained an Angel March 5, 2019.
Barbara, born at home Nov 27, 1934, to Everett R. Smith and Etta Mae (Johnson) Smith counting as one of 10 Smith siblings. Growing up in Westbrook and Gorham, she became a young bride to her Marine, Fred Alden Shaw II. They soon had 2 children; Michael Alan and Deborah Ann.
All too soon, she was widowed at a tender young age.
God had a special plan for our Momma. She married, William A
Bruns and a precious long-legged blue-eyed blonde hair baby boy became her son, my brother, William A. Bruns II.
She had the heart of gold sharing hearth and home with all that entered being an avid homemaker for the formative years. Sharing family times at the lake, picnicking at state parks, boating Casco Bay Islands and growing gladiolas in her back-yard gardens gave her purpose and tenderness beyond words.
Many fond memories flood back of her love of bowling with the ladies league at the Big 20,
PTA activities, fundraising for the March of Dimes, giving birthday parties, bridal and baby showers to our extended family and friends. She will always be remembered for her love of life and those she called “her family” She was always a hard worker from Fairchild Semiconductor to managing the KFC and even well into her early 80s providing PSS care for Alzheimer’s patients through Pine Tree Home Healthcare, NG.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings; James Smith (serving Vietnam War) Dorothy Smith, Patricia (Smith) Warren,
Robert Smith, Wilma (Smith) Springer, Everett Smith, Jr., Katherine (Smith) Connolly, and Richard Smith.
She is survived by her remaining sibling Paul K. Smith & his bride Sharon of Cornish. Her children, Michael Allen Shaw & his bride Sharon of Texas, Deborah Shaw Mancini & her hubby Lewis of
Gray and William (Bill) A. Bruns II and his lovely gal Rhonda of Kennebunk. Grandchildren: Sherry Valerini, Kristofer Hollenkamp, Amanda Mancini, Adam Mancini, Michele Shaw, John Michael Shaw, Natasha Hennessey. Joshua Hennessey, Isabella Bruns, Kyle Bruns along with 7 Great-Grandchildren, Kristofer, Shawn, Libby, Gary, Neveah, Brooke, Joshua Jr., and one on the way.
