Bette Lorraine (Goodnow) Ressel
Bette was born February 19, 1939, in Marlborough, MA, and passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 at Clover Healthcare in Auburn, ME surrounded by family and friends. Daughter of the late Roland Joseph and Lillian Beatrice (Still) Goodnow, Bette grew up in Northborough, MA and made her home in many places, including Chelmsford, MA, Tucson, AZ and Auburn, ME. She is survived by her daughter Anne Berry and her husband Ronald, son Thomas G. Ressel, and daughter Alissa Roy and her husband Marc; grandchildren Killian and Emily Berry, and Caleb, Devyn, and Lillian Roy; brother Roland “Ed” Goodnow and his wife Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Guenther (Ted) Ressel. Bette was a military wife and retired newspaper editor. She loved dabbling in all sorts of crafts, but enjoyed sewing most of all, creating her own wedding dress and many beautiful quilts and clothes for her family. For the last few years she participated in “Little Dresses for Africa”, making and sending 30-50 dresses a month to Africa. She was an active member of the Catholic church and loved singing in the choir. A special THANK YOU to Chris Anderson and to the staff of Clover Healthcare for their loving and personal care of Bette for the last 2½ years. A celebration of Bette’s life will be held in Summer 2019 in Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations to Little Dresses for Africa (LittleDressesForAfrica.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.
