JoAnn Chamberlain Rice

December 6, 1949 ~ May 27, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Rice 1949-2017

New Gloucester-JoAnn Chamberlain Rice (JoJo, Sister) passed peacefully on Saturday evening at the Androscoggin Hospice House with her family by her side.

JoAnn was born in Portland on December 6th, 1949, first child to Dorothy (Smith) and Kenneth Chamberlain.  She attended, and graduated from, school in Gray. In her younger days JoAnn could be found at her family camp on Little Sebago Lake building memories with her parents and sisters. Once grown, she shared her love of camp and the lake with her only child, Lee, born in 1970, and with her nieces and nephews, and eventually her grandchildren. On August 29th, 1998 JoAnn married her husband of 18 years, Charles Rice. Together they made a home in New Gloucester and shared a love of camping. JoAnn was a wonderful cook and made her living as a baker, and at one time owned her own restaurant in Brownfield.  She shared her love of baking with her family and kept them supplied with cakes and deserts for every occasion. No birthday was complete without a cake made by JoJo, and she loved to share both her recipes and her knowledge with her family.  JoAnn will be best remembered for her love of family, and will be terribly missed for the same reason.  JoAnn is survived by her husband Charles Rice, her son Lee Jordan Jr. and wife Nicole, her grandchildren Alison and Nate Jordan, her sisters Becky Coffren, and Donna McGraw and husband Scott, her 3 nieces and 1 nephew, and her 9 great nieces and nephews. She was loved by her step-children Tiffany Tripp and husband Greg, Charles Rice Jr. and wife Gina, James Rice and wife Lisa, and her 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. JoAnn is predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Kenneth Chamberlain and her great-niece Alivia Dwyer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Angel Eyes P.O. Box 431 Freeport, Maine 04032, an organization dedicated to helping local families affected by childhood illness in memory of her great-niece Alivia Ann Dwyer.

Memorial Visitation will be held 6 to 8pm. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray.  A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Gray Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home. Gray.
