Matthew Smith "Mack" Obituary

Matthew C. Smith  “Mack”

Matthew C. Smith, “Mack” 27 of Gray passed away on Tuesday August 27thfrom injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident August 25th.  Matthew was born on June 25, 1992 in Lewiston Maine to Judy B Smith.  He was later raised by Edward Kelley and his Dad Kenneth Wilson of Gray.

Matthews zest for life was surpassed only by his huge, greeting smile!  He always found a reason to like someone and never passed up the opportunity to lend helping hand—no one was a stranger!

Matt had many passions:  4-wheeling and hunting (especially at the family camp in Eustis Maine), canoeing and not to be forgotten, riding his Victory Motorcycle.  Matt quickly befriended and became a valued and respected member of the “V-Twin Cruisers Motorcycle Club”, rising to the rank of Vice President and becoming affectionately known as “Mack”.  He loved riding with his new family, led by “Wrench”, aka Eric Rubino, President of the Club.  Matt was also a member of the “Eagle Riders” of Aerie 4131 in New Gloucester.

It’s not often a young man loves his job, but Matt did!  He was able to obtain his “Class A” truck driver’s license with the help of “Scott Dugas Trucking and Excavating, Inc.” of Yarmouth Maine, where he became an invaluable member of their crew.

Another of Matt’s favorite things was being a member of the “Sons of the American Legion” Squadron 86 in Gray, where he rose to the rank of 2nd Vice Commander.  Matt loved helping with the many fundraisers and most of all assisting with the placement of the American flags along the streets of Gray on holidays—this reflected his great pride and love of his country!

Matt’s great generosity could be summed up in his ultimate sacrifice.  He felt strongly about being an organ donor and upon his death was able to give his “Gifts”, so that others might live!

Matt was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Paula A. & Francis H. Smith

He will be missed by:
