Gray-Vinal Odysseus Zegouros of Gray, ME died unexpectedly on June 25, 2019 at age 60. Vinal was born in New Brunswick, NJ on September 19, 1958. He was one of 3 children of the late Catherine (Look) & Odysseus Zegouros. He was raised in New Bedford, MA, & Whiting, ME. He graduated from Washington Academy in East Machias in 1976 & NMVTI in Presque Isle, ME in 1977. He resided in Lisbon, ME, San Angelo, TX, & settled in Gray, ME where he has lived for the past 35 years.
Vinal owned a commercial masonry construction company, Phoenix Associates, and completed many high profile jobs such as, the Oxford Casino, the LEED certified Hannaford at Cony Circle, Cabela’s, the MBNA properties in Rockland & Camden, and the one he was most proud of, the residence on the privately owned Hope Island in Casco Bay. Vinal was very proud that he had his son, Benjamin Zegouros working alongside him since he was a teenager in high school. Vinal & his wife, Claire, also owned & developed a commercial property in New Gloucester. Vinal was well known & respected in the construction community. He was often consulted to provide his professional opinion & knowledge on many occasions.
Vinal married his high school sweetheart, Claire Lynn Zegouros (Leighton), in San Angelo, TX on November 7, 1981. Many of their relatives & friends considered their relationship the perfect love story. Many people aren’t aware that Vinal played drums in a band when he was a teenager in high school. He also had a Plymouth Duster that he built from the ground up. He was a jokester & loved making his friends & family laugh. Vinal & Claire had spent time over the last several years in The Villages, FL. He was looking forward to buying a retirement home there & cruising around on the golf cart as the place amazed him. Over the years Vinal provided help & assistance to many friends & relatives and was always our “go to” person.
Vinal is survived by his wife, Claire Zegouros of Gray, ME, daughter & son-in-law Robert & Miranda Kay Conrad of Rowley, MA, son Benjamin Odysseus Zegouros of Gray, ME., and proud grandfather of his two beautiful granddaughters Hannah Claire & Morgan Kate Conrad. He is also survived by one sister, Leah Zegouros of Lisbon, ME., and many nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by his mother Catherine Avis Zegouros (Look) of Lisbon, ME & his father Odysseus John Zegouros of CA, & also his brother John Zegouros of Sabattus. Visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home in Gray on Sunday, June 30th from 2-5pm & a graveside service at the Lower Gloucester cemetery on Monday, July 1st at 11am.
