Ann Katherine Messinger
Ann ("Annie") Katherine Messinger passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2026, after a
short battle with pancreatic cancer. Annie was born in Massachusetts on February 25, 1976, to
parents Margaret (nee Verrill) Messinger and George (“Ged”) Messinger. Annie had the special
bond of being a twin and was proudly two minutes older than her sister, Cori Messinger.
Annie spent most of her life in Maine. She grew up in Gray, Maine, and graduated from Gray-
New Gloucester High School in 1994 and then from University of Southern Maine in 1999.
Annie worked for BerryDunn and previously with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. She
volunteered for numerous organizations throughout her life, including serving as a long standing
Board Member of Pierce Pond Watershed Trust. After moving to West Virginia in 2018, she
reconnected with her high school love, Jason (“Junior”) Astephen. In 2020, she moved to
Charlotte, North Carolina, to be with him and his beautiful son, Hudson. They enjoyed cooking
dinners together, watching Hudson play baseball, and connecting with friends. Junior
unfortunately faced some serious health challenges, and Annie was by his side until he passed
in June 2023. Her beloved companion was her golden doodle, Ella, who lived a long and happy
life because of Annie. She had recently moved back home to Maine to be near friends and
family.
Annie was always up for an adventure. She made frequent road trips to see her many friends.
She was an athlete, an avid sports fan and loved to place a bet – often successfully. Annie was
fiercely independent with sharp wit and a warm smile. She was extraordinarily generous, one of
the best friends you could have, and loved by so many.
Annie is predeceased by her mother, Margaret Messinger. She is survived by her twin sister,
Cori Messinger and husband Todd Moxham; father, Ged Messinger; and stepmother, Debra
Wallett; and countless friends.
A celebration of life will be held on February 28, 1:00-4:00pm, at the banquet hall at Val Halla
Recreation Center in Cumberland, Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to
Pierce Pond Watershed Trust www.piercepondwatershed.org/donate and Boys & Girls Clubs
of Southern Maine www.bgcmaine.org/donate.
