Brian Thompson Obituary

Brian Lee Thompson, 66 of New Gloucester passed away peacefully at home and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on November 17th, 2022 after battling a Glioma brain tumor for 11 years. Brian was born August 16, 1956 in Hudson, MA to Herbert Jr and Donna Thompson. He graduated from Gray New Gloucester High School in 1975 where he enjoyed playing the trumpet and being a part of the ski jumping team. He worked at Cook’s Hardware, Kassbohrer of North America, and 19 1/2 years at Unum Life Insurance Company. In his early adulthood he enjoyed stock car racing and being a leader of his church youth group. He earned his black belt in Shotokan Karate and loved coaching his son’s little league baseball team. One of his biggest passions in his life was farming at the family owned business, Thompson’s Orchards. He loved everything about it and was proud to be a part of the growing accomplishments of the farm. It was evident by the boundless joy on his face when you saw him farming. He will forever be known for his joyous smile, humor, and big hugs. He was loved and respected by many.
He married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Hartwell, on May 5, 1979. They were always an example of true love to those around them, for better or worse. They enjoyed doing everything together and were a great team. They had two children together. He was a true example of an amazing, loving, devoted father. He was the proud Bumpa of five grandkids and great Bumpa to one great grandson. They were truly a gift from God and he loved, cherished, and enjoyed every minute with them. They brought extra sparkle to his eyes and joy to his smile.
Brian is survived by his wife Lynn Thompson, daughter Devan and her husband Ben McKay, his grandkids, Layne, Haylee, Xander, Ian, and Aleeya, his great grandson Ranley, mother Donna Thompson, brother Mike Thompson, brother-in-law Larry Hartwell and his wife Sherri, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Brock Thompson, father Herbert Thompson Jr, and aunt Minna Thompson.
