Carolyne Lee Doyle, born December 27, 1939, in Portland, Maine, passed away
peacefully on May 9, 2026, with her family close by. She was the beloved daughter of
Mildred L. Axelson and Elmer Plummer Sr.
Carolyne graduated from Portland High School in 1959. On April 30, 1960, she
married the love of her life, Richard S. Doyle, with whom she shared 58 years of
marriage until his passing on September 2, 2018. Together, they built a home filled with
love, laughter, and the steady warmth of family.
A devoted homemaker, Carolyne poured her heart into caring for her family. She loved
to cook and took great pride in canning the produce grown in the family garden. Never
one to shy away from learning something new, she taught herself the art of cake
decorating so she could lovingly create her daughters’ wedding cakes—an act that
perfectly reflected her creativity and devotion.
As her children grew, Carolyne pursued a career in caregiving. She became a Certified
Nursing Assistant and began her work at Brentwood Manor in Yarmouth, Maine. She
later joined Pineland Center, where she cared for individuals with mental disabilities.
Her compassion, patience, and gentle spirit touched countless lives, and she was
deeply respected by those she worked with and cared for.
Carolyne is survived by her daughters: Rhonda L. Cassella, Patti A. Gauna, and
Pamela J. Doyle; her grandchildren: Jeremy R. Doyle, Brandon M. Murphy, Brittnee
L. Gauna, Audree C. Gauna, Joseph R. Cassella, and Sabrina L. Cassella; and her
greatgrandchildren: Maisie L. Arsenault and Maxwell J. Arsenault. She cherished
each of them and took immense pride in the family she and Richard created.
Carolyne will be remembered for her kindness, her steady strength, her love of home
and family, and the care she extended to others throughout her life. Her legacy lives on
in the generations who loved her and in the many lives she touched with her gentle
heart.
