Catherine McElligott D'Amboise, 91, of New Gloucester passed away on May 16th after a brief illness. Catherine was born in County Kerry, Ireland in 1929 and immigrated to New York City where she met and married her husband Paul before moving to Lewiston, Maine. She was a devoted wife and mother and her family and Catholic faith brought her much happiness and fulfillment. She worked as a teacher in both the Minot and Lewiston school systems for many years.
In retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling , gardening, Irish set dancing and playing her tin whistle. She volunteered at the Maine Wildlife Park, the New Gloucester Library, St Gregory's Church and was a member of the Maine Master Gardener program.
She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her three sons, Pat, of New Gloucester, Kevin, of Portland, Jim, of Falmouth and two daughters, Maureen Sproul, of New Gloucester and Kathy Jenkins, of Venice, Florida; along with twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul and her son Tom.
A graveside service will take place on Friday at 10 AM at Lower Gloucester Cemetery, 96 Gloucester Hill Rd., New Gloucester. Arrangements under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, Gray, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Catherine's memory to the New Gloucester Library and Maine Wildlife Park.
