Charlina “Charlene” Mae Holmes,78, of Gray, Maine, went home to her Lord and Savior, peacefully, at Maine Medical Center on December 19th, 2024 at 9:46 p.m. surrounded by her beloved family.

 Charlene was born on November 16th,1946 at home to Homer and Lottie Jewett. She was the oldest daughter of 8 children where she honed her skills as a mother and a cook, helping nurture and raise her younger siblings. She attended Yarmouth High School. Charlene married John Holmes on August 22nd,1966.  During their 32 years of marriage they had 4 children, Ricky, Carolyn, John Michael, and Josh. She also took in several other children that called her “Ma”. 

Charlene was full to the brim with knowledge she gained from all her life experiences: Mother, Home Maker, Cook, Baker, Farmer, and in her later years, a Home Management Provider.  

Her passions were being a mother, and grandmother not only to her own but to many neighborhood kids as well. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, canoeing, white water rafting and she was well known for her cooking at Allen Farms. She also worked at Halls Egg Farm for many years. Charlene enjoyed outings to the Casino with her sisters, nieces, and her kids. She was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, love, and support for her family. She also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. She was generous, loyal, and brave. 

She was predeceased by her father Homer, her mother Lottie, her sisters Geraldine, Althea, Karen, and Geneva. Her son John Michael, her grandson Dustin, and her nephew Stephen.

She was survived by her brother Fredrick “Butch”, sisters Vivian and Jill. Children- Ricky, Carolyn (Matt), Josh (Jami-Lyn). Grandkids- Chelsey, Abigail, Austin, Jonathan, Amanda, Johnny Jr., Amber, Jamison, Jaden, Alex, Ava, Anna, and Aiden.

A Celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
