Charlotte Ellen (Verrill) Frost
"Little Gram"
March 16, 1920 - February 23, 2026
Charlotte was a lifelong resident of Gray, born to John & Eva (McGowen) Verrill. She attended Gray schools and graduated from Pennell Institute in 1937.
On December 22, 1937, she married Philip Frost, the love of her life, in Bath. During World War II, she worked at fish factories packing sardines for ten cents a can in Portland and Yarmouth. Later, she worked for Burnham & Morrill canning beans alongside her mother and sister-in-law. In her seventies and eighties, she provided household assistance to many in need.
Charlotte had one daughter, Sharon (McElman), born in 1946, who was her main focus as well as caring for other family members.
In 2017, Charlotte was awarded the Boston Post cane from the town of Gray, being the oldest resident. She was extremely proud of this honor.
You could often find Charlotte working in her garden well into her 90s, picking blueberries, reading, knitting, and sewing. Family meant so much to her. She loved telling stories about family history as well as the history of Gray. She loved cats and always had one or two sharing her home with her. She cherished correspondence and visits with dear friends. In her later years, she enjoyed watching her great-grandchilren participate in their activities, especially basketball, where she attended games up until she was 100 years old.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as her brother Clyde Verrill; his wife Amy, her loving husband Philip Frost, her son-in-law Bill McElman, and a nephew Lewis Verrill.
Charlotte is survived by many loving family members including; her daughter Sharon of Bath, three granddaughters; Sandy Foster of Raymond, Sara Guild and her husband Ray of Bath, Susie Webster and her husband Dave of Bath, six great grandchildren; Benjamin Foster of Gray, Jillian Foster of Raymond, Erica and Thomas Guild of Bath, Quintin and Kaidin Webster of Bath, and one great great grandson Jackson Harrison of Bath, along with a special niece Colleen Verrill and three great nephews; James, Jeremy, and Josh Verrill.
