Christopher Brown Obituary

Christopher Huw Brown, age 78, was born in Wales, UK, on February 12, 1946. He died at his home in Gray, Maine, on February 10, 2025 following a long illness.

At the age of eight, Chris and his family made the voyage from England to America on the Queen Mary. After living in White Plains, NY for a few years, they settled in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, where Chris spent his adolescent years and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School. He went on to work for 48 years in security system sales and customer service.

In 1976 Chris married his wife Kathie and they raised their family in Portland, ME, before moving in 1998 to their home in Gray, ME. Chris found purpose in serving his community in Maine through the men's team that he was a major part of creating and maintaining for nearly four decades. He enjoyed the long trail walks he and his wife took through the woods near their home with their many beloved dogs. One of the things that his family always looked forward to during the holidays was his special baked mac & cheese and his legendary oatmeal bread, an old Cowan family recipe, passed down from his in-laws.

He was predeceased by his sister Jennifer Cantrel and parents Phyllis Brown (Samuel) and Douglas Brown. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathie Brown (Landry), by his children, Casey Brown, Miranda Cassidy and son-in-law, Mike Cassidy of Southern ME, Christine Barkey and son-in-law, Ben Barkey of Winfield WV and James Grard of Winslow ME; grandchildren Teagan Brown, Clover Brown, Aislyn Cassidy, Griffin Barkey, Larson Barkey, Brandon Ludden and Evan Grard; great-grandchild Dillon Ludden. Along with extended family and friends.

The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine, for their support in caring for Chris at home in his final months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Chris’s name, to the

Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

The details of a celebration of Chris’s life will be announced at a future date.
