Clifford Schools Obituary

Clifford James Schools passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 79, in his home in Gray, Maine. Born on February 16, 1945, Clifford was known for his hardworking nature and his readiness to help others in need.

Clifford graduated from Windham High School where he began forming lifelong friendships with his fellow classmates. Clifford served in the Merchant Marines and served honorably in the Army for three years, dedicating himself to his duties.  He then embarked on a career as a truck driver, working for several companies including The Teamsters, Town of Falmouth, Storey Brothers Excavating, and Bowdoin Excavation, where he was respected for his reliability and strong work ethic.

Clifford had a passion for the outdoors, which was evident in his hobbies. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting with his son Erik, friend Lee, and brother Mike.  He also enjoyed going "upta camp" and playing cards. These activities brought him great joy and provided cherished memories for his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Erik Schools and wife Lori of New Gloucester, ME; sisters Arldean Alejandro and her husband Victor of Cuba, NY, Barbara Skinner and her husband Paul of Filmore, NY, Bonny Stark of Alaska; brothers Charles Messer and his wife Terry of South Buffalo, NY, Frank Brown and his wife Marci of Poland, ME, Richard Bridges and his wife Carol of Windham, ME, Michael Bridges of Windham, ME, Robert Smith of Scarborough, ME, Steven Smith of New Gloucester, ME, Richard Shepard of Sanford, ME, granddaughter Alyssa Wilson of Poland, ME, longtime companion Toody MacDonald of Gray, ME, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Clifford was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Eva Bridges and Doris Schools, his wife Mary Schools, his sister Elaine Messer, and his brothers Everett Messer, Alan Messer, and David Vining.

Clifford's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his commitment to his work. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

To Skippy, I was barely 4 when you went away. You were my big brother, my protector. After 70 years I can still feel you hold my hand. Your sister, Deanie
