In Loving Memory of Donald E. McKeen
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don McKeen, 86, who left us on June 7,
2025. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
Born on May 20, 1939 in Portland, Maine to Elsworth and Hazel McKeen, he graduated from
Pennell Institute in Gray where he excelled in baseball, basketball and track. While in school he
developed his love of wood working and at the age of 16 knew he wanted to become a brick
mason. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 after which he started his own
masonry business and was known for his skilled craftsmanship. A man of strong faith, he
enjoyed time spent with his South Windham Community Church family. Donny was known for
his sense of humor and quick wit and always had a joke or two to tell. He made it a point to
visit and lift the spirits of anyone in need and was always willing to lend a helping hand. An avid
hunter and fisherman, Don had a love and passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time
at his camp in Millinocket.
Don was predeceased by his first wife Jeanne Monteith and daughter Dianne Spofford. He is
survived by his loving wife of 61 years Priscilla, brother Teddy McKeen (and wife Ethel), sister
Nancy Mains and their families, daughters Theresa Jack (and partner Brian Hansen), Kim
Thornton (and spouse Greg), Shirley McKeen (and partner Duane Greaton), and Sandy Waltz
(and spouse Mike), 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorial Donations may be made to Gray Fire Rescue,125 Shaker Road Gray, ME 04039
May Don rest in peace, forever remembered and deeply loved.
