Doris “Dottie” B. Whitney (Fogg), 79
On Monday, March 3, 2025, Doris “Dottie” B. Whitney (Fogg), 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior after facing several health challenges in recent years.
Born on December 23, 1945, to Norma Fogg and daughter of John Fogg, Dottie spent most of her life in the quiet town of Gray, Maine, a place she dearly loved. She graduated in 1964 from Gray-New Gloucester High School. She loved attending the high school dances and would quite often win the dance competitions, and come home with a brand new 45 record. In 1975, she attended Mansfield Beauty Academy in Portland, Maine, where she earned her hairdresser’s license. She later opened The Hair Hut in Gray, a salon that flourished for over 20 years. More than just a business, it was a place where clients became family, and she cherished each and every one of them.
Dottie had an infectious love for life and laughter. She found joy in making others smile and never hesitated to give—whether it was money, a helping hand, or even the shirt off her back—no matter how much or how little she had. She had a heart of gold and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, which guided her kindness and generosity. Above all, Dottie was a devoted and loving mother, raising her children with deep care and an endless well of love.
She enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the late ‘90s and early 2000s and took many memorable vacations to Florida and the Caribbean. She also loved scrapbooking, reading, crocheting and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Meme. She had a sharp sense of humor and a deep love for laughter, always bringing joy to those around her.
Dottie is survived by her daughter, Stacy Veilleux and her husband, Lee, of Scarborough; son, Buddy May and his wife, Sue, of Oxford; and her daughter, Dinah Wilson and her husband, James, of Princeton, Kentucky. She was a beloved grandmother to Vinnie, Adam, Taylor, and Jordan, and a cherished great-grandmother to Mason and Archer. She also leaves behind her siblings, Marilyn, Johnny, David, and Jenny, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Please remember Dottie happily and celebrate the beauty, love and laughter she would want us to carry forward. She will live in our hearts, by the love she gave so freely, and the joy she brought to all of us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bible Believing Baptist Church at 92 Center Road, Gray, Maine on Saturday March 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to the Bible Believing Baptist Church in Gray, that she attended for many, many years!
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Affinity Care Hospice and the wonderful staff at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. Your kindness, dedication, and unwavering support provided our mother with comfort, dignity and peace in her final days. We will forever be grateful for the warm, and compassion you showed her and our family during this time.
