Earl C. Rickett Jr.
After battling with Alzheimer’s disease for several years, Earl C. Rickett Jr. passed
away at the Veteran’s Hospital in Scarborough, Maine on March 23, 2023. Earl was the last
of his siblings. His twin sisters Earline and Eilene passed away in infancy and his brother
Byron Rickett passed away in July of 2009.
Earl C. Rickett was born on December 2, 1937 and grew up in Portland, Maine. After
attending Portland schools, Earl decided to join the United States Marines when he turned
18. Earl served in the Corps from 1955 - 1959 as a member of the Crash Fire Fighting and
Rescue Unit. Earl was always extremely proud of his service.
When he returned home on his first leave, he married his girlfriend, Helen Bryant.
Together they had five children - Debbie Graves, currently of Bridgton, Maine; Donna
Skilling, currently of Gray, Maine; Deanna Flanagan, currently of Naples, Florida; Doreen
Purcell, currently of Gray, Maine and Denise Rickett who passed away in infancy. Twelve
grandchildren and several great children also survive Earl.
Earl was a founding member of the Eagles Club in New Gloucester, Maine and could
often be found dancing the night away. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and
fishing. He made it a practice to take “his girls” camping as often as possible and summers
always involved a long car trip up to Campobello Island to visit relatives and enjoy the
outdoors.
Earl will be laid to rest at Springvale Veteran’s Cemetery on June 12, 2023 at 1:00
PM; resting forever in the company of those who served their country and loved their
families.
