Edward “Ed” Everett Jones – (82) of Gray, passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
02/26/2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by family.
He was born in Portland Maine on July 17, 1942 the son Margaret West and James
Neill Jones.
Edward was educated in Standish school system.
Edward married Lorraine Ruth Thompson on February 19, 1966, becoming stepfather to
her three children, Ruth, Ralph and Darryl, they went on to have a daughter Shelley.
Edward worked for the Maine State Forest Service from 1963 until retirement in 2001.
After retirement from the Maine Forest Service he worked at Securitas from 2001-2011,
fully retiring in 2011.
Edward is Past Master of Cumberland Lodge #12 order of Free Masons. Past Worthy
Patron of Golden Sheaf Chapter Order of Eastern Star Chapter #114, Past High Priest
BOAZ Royal Arch Chapter #72. Past Commander of Lewiston Commandry #6 Knight’s
Templar. Past member of KORA Shrine Temple. He enjoyed playing cornet in the Kora
Temple Shrine band; marching in parades and performing at the annual Shrine
Circuses.
Edward was a past member of the Gray Volunteer Fire Department.
Edward’s hobbies included woodworking, making furniture and signs for family and
friends. He enjoyed camping and hiking, sharing this love with his wife and children
traveling all over the beautiful states of Maine and New Hampshire.
In addition to his parents, Edward is predeceased by his siblings Carleen Banks, and
Richard Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine Jones,
stepdaughter Ruth Hall of Portland ME and her children: Sarah Murch, Rachel
Lorraine, Robert Sanborn Jr, Matthew Sanborn and Caleb Sanborn; stepson Ralph
Ridlon & wife Dianna of Gray ME and his children: Charlotte Ridlon, Jason Ridlon, and
Chelsea Lovino; stepson Darryl Ridlon and wife Bonita of Chesapeake VA, and children:
Robert Mains, Brandon Ridlon, and Jenna Ridlon; and daughter Shelley Verrill of
Manchester NH, her children Andrew Verrill and Maura Verrill. 18 Great grandchildren,
and 7 Great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his remaining sibling Deborah
Lewis of Dover Foxcroft and many loving nieces and nephews throughout the eastern
seaboard.
At his request, there will a gathering of family for a celebration of life in the spring.
