Elaine Loper Obituary

Elaine Frances (Bennett) (Lowe) Loper  1934-2021
Elaine Loper passed away Monday November 22, 2021 in Poland, Maine.
Elaine was born to Waldo and Esther Bennett on February 18, 1934 in Everett, Mass.
At a young age Elaine lived with her Uncle Wayland and Aunt Marian Bennett. She grew up on their farm helping them to care for chickens, goats, cows, cats, dogs and best of all, horses.  Elaine learned how to drive a tractor and "back it up and move over just 1 inch" to line up with the hitch, how to hay using a "dump rake", pitch loose hay onto a pickup and then pitch it again into a hay loft. She rode her horses through fields and trails and occasionally hitched up the buggy to take others on a drive.
Elaine went to Greeley High School, and to Westbrook Junior College (now UNE). In 1954 she married George T. Lowe of Gray, Maine and they raised 3 children.  During those years she worked part-time teaching art as therapy to vets in Gray Manor.  In the mid 1960s Elaine and her Aunt Marian began to study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. She was baptized in 1970. In 1975 George died of a heart attack. Her faith carried her through this trial.
In 1985, while attending a Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses, Elaine met Eugene Loper (aka: Buz) from East Hampton NY.  They were married in 1986. When they retired, they made annual trips to Florida, visiting her sisters on the route down and staying with his sister Helen. There were trips to Maine to visit children, grandchildren, Bennett Family reunions and Fryeburg Fair. They also visited Portugal and Spain. They moved between New York and Maine 4 times.
Elaine was kind and humble. She had many skills. She made pottery, painted watercolors and "Bob Ross" oils, built bookcases from salvaged lumber (before it became a style thing). She was an organic gardener, planted vegetables and flowers. She loved touring gardens in the places she visited. She was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed making and tailoring clothes, curtains, quilts, and she upholstered furniture.
Elaine was a Bible student. She loved learning about her Heavenly Father and his purpose for the Earth and learning the Good News Jesus taught. She was active in the ministry until ill health kept her house bound. When she began to lose the ability to speak, she would do her best to sing along when Kingdom Songs were played.
Elaine is survived by husband Eugene (Buz), children Jane, Dan, and David, son-in-law Wayne, grandchildren Daniel II (wife Anna), Skye, Brianne (husband Beau), Crystal and Robert. Step-sons Johnny and Jim. Sisters Joanne, Rhoda and brother Stanley; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends in many places. Pre-deceased by first husband George, parents Waldo and Esther, Uncle Wayland and Aunt Marian, sisters Esther and Pauline.
