Ellen Joan Hathaway

Ellen Joan Hathaway (maiden name Sumpter), 65, of Cumberland, Maine, passed away on January 17, 2024. She was born on February 11, 1958, in Portland, Maine. Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and dedicated nurse.

Ellen had a fulfilling career as an RN at Maine Medical Center in Portland and was a valued member of the Employee Health team for many years. She retired in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of compassionate care and dedication to her profession. 

In her free time, Ellen enjoyed taking photographs and scrapbooking, knitting, and working in the gardens at home with her husband. Ellen was a member of Tuttle Road Community Church, where she found solace and friendship. Her faith was an important aspect of her life, and she cherished the connections she made through her place of worship.

Ellen is survived by her sons, Christopher, Joshua, and Benjamin; her grandchildren, Luke, Lena, Sam, Alistair, and Ellowyn; as well as her extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jonathan; her brother, John; and her parents, Cathy and Jack.

A Memorial service to celebrate Ellen's life will be held at Tuttle Road Community Church on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1 PM. Ellen will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her kind heart, loving spirit, and dedication to her family and profession will be remembered and cherished forever.
