Eugene Loper Obituary

Eugene Francis Loper 1935-2024
Eugene F. Loper passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024 after a brief illness.
He was born in East Hampton, New York, where his family roots go back to the 1600s.
As a toddler his sister called him Buzzer instead of Brother. The nickname stuck and he was known as
Buzz Loper.
After high school Buzz joined the U. S. Air Force and served in the Korean war. He later worked as a
carpenter then joined the U. S. Postal Service and worked as a mail carrier until he retired.
He married Joan Adele Mohr in 1957and raised sons James and John. Sadly Joan died of cancer in 1983.
In 1986 he married Elaine Frances Lowe in Maine. They lived between New York and Maine until Elaine
passed away in 2021.
Eugene liked to travel and see new places, take pictures of people, places or just a building with
interesting lines and shadows. He didn’t mind getting lost and seeing someplace new. He grew up near the
beach and loved the ocean, liked to surf cast (even though he didn’t like fish) and drive his jeep on the
beach when he had a permit to do so. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and shared his knowledge of
the Bible with others. While in Maine Buzz volunteered in the food service department at Kingdom Hall
building projects.
Instead of flowers, donations to Poland Fire and Rescue (33 Poland Corner Rd. Poland, Maine 04274) or
any animal shelter would be appreciated.
