Gladys Phinney Obituary

Gladys Mae Phinney
Gladys went to be with her Lord January 10, 2023 with her family close by. She was a
fun loving wife and mother. She was born in West Paris, Maine December 20, 1929 to
Jesse and Pearl Smith were she lived until she was 8 moving to Portland and than later
moving to Gray, Maine. She married Wayne Smart for a short period at a young age and
had 2 boys Bruce and Terrance Smart. She worked at Pineland in the Hospital were she
contracted TB. She later met the love of her life Maxwell Phinney and marrying in 1954 to
later have 6 children. She lovingly worked beside Max in the woods and growing
vegetables to sell at their roadside stand, drawing and baking for people After her
husband passed she continued selling firewood with her daughter Heather, and also was a
foster grandparent at Russell School in Gray and then Memorial School in New Gloucester were
she enjoyed comforting the kindergarten students. She than went on to Fiddleheads were
she retired. Gladys continued living on the homestead farm with Heather until her
passing.
Gladys is pre deceased by her sons Bruce and Terrence and her husband Max
She leaves behind her sons Bryan and his wife Karen of Gray, Christian and his wife
Brenda of News Gloucester, Abraham of Gray and Thaddeus of Gray and 2 Daughters
Maxine and her partner Sweeny of Michigan and Heather and her partner Ernest Rogers
of Gray. 1 grandson Terrance Smart of Buxton, 1 grand daughter Keagan Whitney of
Gray, 1 great grandson Reid of Gray and 1 great grand daughter Alivia of Gray.
A special thanks to Shelia and Hannah from Androscoggin hospice for their kindness and
caring that they provided for my mother and family.
