Gloria Sanborn, 92, of Windsor, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on December 22, 2020 at the home of her daughter. She was born in Cumberland on April 3, 1928, and resided there for her entire life. Gloria was the daughter of Chester and Veartrice Verrill.
In her younger years she was a switchboard operator for New England Tel & Tel on Main St. in Cumberland. Prior to her retirement, Gloria was a rural mail carrier for 22 years in Cumberland and North Yarmouth. She and her husband owned various businesses at their residence including selling apples and cider, an ice cream shop, and an antique shop.
Many of her enjoyments included raising a vegetable garden and canning her tomatoes and green beans. She also made relish and strawberry jam. Sewing, knitting afghans, and doing puzzles with her sister were her favorite past times.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Sanborn, brothers Richard, Dwight, & Randall Verrill. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Campbell of Windsor, her son William Sanborn and wife Susan of York, and her sister Norma Smith, who resided with her for many years. Gloria had four grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our special thanks goes out to Maine General Hospice for their dedication and compassion during this difficult time.
There will be no visiting hours due to COVID-19. A private burial will be held in the spring at Moss Side Cemetery in Cumberland Center. Plans will be made for a celebration of Gloria’s life at a later date.
