Gray-Gregory Haskell Smart, 66, passed away after a long illness peacefully at his home on June 7, 2020. He was born February 11, 1954 at the Children’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. He was adopted at the age of three weeks by his parents Lucy and John Murray and brother John Smart Jr.
He grew up in Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough, attended Hebron Academy and graduated from Cheverus High School. Greg attended St. Michael’s College in Vermont. Greg had a long career in the Construction field starting with foundations, masonry, and onto Carpentry eventually starting his own business. He was a true professional and perfectionist, his motto was “Do it right the first time and use quality materials.” He enjoyed building toys for his children, nieces, and nephews. Greg married the love of his life, Gail LaVallee on June 13, 1981.They would have celebrated their 39th Wedding Anniversary this year. They made their home for 30 years on Little Sebago Lake in Windham where so many people enjoyed “great times.”.
He is survived by his wife, Gail, daughters; Lucy Codrey and husband Trevor. Samantha Smart and husband Timothy Strout Jr., 3 granddaughters Madison, Kinley and Lillian. His beloved dog, CC and bird Sweetie pie, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John.
An open house Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday June 20, 2020 at the Inn at Fogg Farm in Gray from 2 to 6 pm.
