Harold Caldwell Obituary

GRAY – Harold “Sonny” Caldwell, 83, passed away February 7, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Lewiston Maine on December 9, 1937, son of the late Harold and Arlene Caldwell.

Sonny met the love of his life and best friend, Julie, at the Rollerdrome in Auburn.  Sonny and Julie married on September 8, 1962 and had 4 children which they raised in Gray.  The couple remained happily married for 58 years, creating a wonderful, tight knit family that was the center of his life.  He adored his 2 grandchildren and would attend many of their school functions.

Sonny’s work life consisted of R.C. Hazelton and 17 years at the US Postal Service, retiring in 2002.  Upon retirement, Sonny enjoyed working part time for the Lady Slipper Flower Shop, where he enjoyed meeting many customers and always had time for a quick chat, a smile or a word of encouragement.

His passions included playing many competitive games with family and friends including cards, cribbage, bingo, cornhole and horseshoes.  He and Julie loved dancing and were often seen on the dance floor doing the jitterbug.  They traveled often, especially during retirement, and often with other family members.  He was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan and loved watching all sports year round.  Sonny bowled many years in various leagues in both Lewiston and Portland and formed many life-long friendships during this time.  He enjoyed baking and was well known for his delicious chocolate chip cookies at family events.

Sonny had a gift of recalling birthdays and anniversaries for his entire extended family.  He was outgoing, kind, loving, and had a great sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh.

Sonny was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Irene Bennett and Corrine Bolduc, step brothers Jim Miller and Dick Dube and a step sister Majorie Labbe.  He is survived by his loving wife Julie, his children: Denise, Deb and her spouse Ellyn Ladd, Todd, Tim and his partner John Ramos, grandchildren Ryan and Braedon, two brothers Tom Caldwell and his wife Gloria, Ted Caldwell and his wife Diane and a large loving extended family.

Sonny lived life to the fullest, always putting his family first and will be missed by many.  There will be no service at his request.
