Helen Hall Obituary

On Monday, June 23, 2025, Helen Louise Hall, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother
and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her house with her daughter by her
side. Helen was born in Portland on July 7, 1949 to Robert and Vivian Russell. She
graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School with the class of 1967. Helen moved
to Gray when she was 13 and is where she met the love of her life James Hall. They
were high school sweethearts and married on June 24th, 1967. They were happily
married for 51 years.
Helen, also known as Nannie to her grandchildren, was so proud of all of them. She
loved hearing about Zekes flowers and gardens, Zebs lacrosse and football games,
Kelsey and her daughters and Tyler and his life in Connecticut.
Helen did the books for Jimmy’s construction business, but her love was being a
homemaker, she loved being at home cleaning, cooking and watching her kids, her
grandkids and other kids in the neighborhood. Daily cooking a three-course dinner and
baking up something special like her famous whoopie pies. Family was everything to
her and Jimmy. She loved that her daughters lived right next door so they could see
each other every day, and Sundays were the highlight of her and Jimmy’s week, when
the entire family gathered for Sunday dinner.
Helen loved spending time up to camp with Jimmy and their friends Donny and Bev
Whitney exploring Aroostook County. Helen and Bev spent many hours at their kitchen
tables catching up on town news or reminiscing over good times and family. After the
kids were raised you could find Helen and her friend Judy Neal walking to town for their
daily coffee.
Helen’s favorite time of the year though was Christmas and making her homemade
chocolates with Dawn-Marie and Sam. She would spend hours prepping for the big day
and when complete spending hours wrapping the chocolates beautifully to hand out to
family, friends and Jimmy’s customers.
Helen is survived by her daughter Samantha and husband Mark Dufresne, son-in-law
Chris Bailey, grandchildren Zeb and Zeke Dufresne, Tyler Bailey, Kelsey and husband
David McCann along with her great grand-children Hadley and Vivian McCann, sisters-
in-law Barbara Hall Davis and Wendy Russell, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmy, their daughter Dawn-
Marie Bailey, brother Earnest Russell, sister Roberta Catron and nephew Kendhall
Davis.
It was Helen’s wishes for no services; there will be a private burial at a later time.
