Helen R. Taylor, 86
1936-2022
Gray-Helen R. Taylor 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec 7, 2022 at
Coastal Manor. She went to be with her loving husband of sixty years who predeceased her in
2018. She was born in Guilford, ME to Signe (Strom) and Nils Ranta the oldest of eight children
growing up in Monson, ME. After Helen graduated Valedictorian from Monson Academy, she
moved to Gray where she worked for Cumberland Motor Sales which is where she and Les
met eventually marrying November 15, 1958, and residing in Gray. She worked as secretary for
several jobs including Liberty Oil and Sebago Lake Garage before starting her career for the
Town of Gray as receptionist in 1989 and then secretary in 1994. In 1997 she became Acting
Tax Assessor and by the end of the year became the Tax Assessor retiring March 2, 2012, after
23 years of service for the Town of Gray. She was an active member of the AMVETS Auxiliary
Post 6 in New Gloucester. She is survived by her four children, Russell Taylor, Scott Taylor (wife
Janet), Sherri Taylor and Dianne Taylor (fiancé Jared Antill), 5 grandsons; Ryan, Jeffrey, Dylan,
Evan and Noah, as well as her first great granddaughter Harper, 4 sisters; Inez Goodine, Wanda
Vermeers, Ruth Denewith, and Linda Monteith and several nieces and nephews. Helen was
predeceased by her brother William, and sisters Evelyn Ranta, and Gladys Dudson. She will be
sorely missed by her family and friends. The family wants to thank Coastal Manor for the
wonderful care. Visiting hours will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Gray on Sunday Dec 11th
from 1-4 pm with a graveside service Monday, Dec 12th at 11am at Gray Village Cemetery.
