Hukom Dionisio Obituary

Hukom (aka George, aka John) Sabal Dionisio passed away peacefully in his home on
July 3, 2025, in Standish, ME. He was 92 years old.
Hukom was born on October 21, 1932, in the Tondo section of Manila, Philippines. He
was the youngest child of Pablo Dionisio and Manuella Sabal. In 1955, Hukom was
recruited to join the Unites States Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, he lived a
sailor’s dream and visited multiple ports of call across North America and Caribbean
Islands. Hukom served honorably and retired after 35 years of service.
In 1961, he married Patricia Louise Ladd of Portland, Maine. They eventually moved to
New Gloucester, Maine to raise a growing family. Hukom and Patricia divorced after 10
years of marriage.
Hukom loved carpentry, cooking traditional Filippino dishes and playing the lottery. He
could be found at the local lumber yard or hardware store purchasing materials for his
latest renovation project to include a modest 3-season camp on Sebago Lake.
Eventually, the 3-season turned into a 4-season with multiple additions, out buildings
and garage. At one point he built a multi-story treehouse.
He also taught all his children how to cook traditional Filippino dishes like Chicken or
Pork Adobo, Pancit and Lumpia. More importantly, he taught us the proper technique
for a pot of rice: multiple washing and 2:1 water to rice. Never take the lid off while
cooking.
Hukom was preceded by former wife Patricia, son Randolph and daughter Kimberly. He
is survived by his four loving children, Donna, David, Manuella, Kevin and multiple
stepchildren and grandchildren. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews and loved
ones in his native country of the Philippines.
