James A. Durant, known affectionately as “Jimmy,” and lovingly called “Pip” by his family,
passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at his home in Windham, Maine, surrounded by his
family. He was 82 years old. Born on August 3, 1943, in Portland, Maine, Jimmy lived a life
marked by service, generosity, faith, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved.
A proud graduate of Deering High School, Class of 1962, Jimmy went on to serve his country
with honor in the United States Navy for six years. Following his military service, he dedicated
his career to United Parcel Service, where he worked faithfully for 31 years. To keep busy after
his time at UPS, he helped friends with plumbing and heating jobs.
Jimmy lived his Christian faith through action—opening his home, offering help without question,
and caring for others in times of need. He was a steady, loving presence to many beyond his
immediate family, serving as a father figure to those who needed guidance, support, or simply
someone to believe in them. His generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on countless lives.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Constance Durant; his brother, Timothy Durant;
and his beloved son, Timothy Durant.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years, Therese “Jackie” Durant; his daughters, Carrie
(Malcolm) Tevanian, Lisa (Tyler) Burtsell, and Lori (Todd) Hayman; and his grandchildren, Justin
(Samantha) Turner, Britta Durant, Ashlee (Aaron) Dionne, Kayla Turner, Brendan Durant, Anisa
(Liam) Hayman, and Bryce (Bri) Hayman. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Noah
Turner, Asher Turner, Ava Arterton, Kennedy Dionne, Oliver Dionne, Harper Durant, Peyton
Turner, and Beckham Hayman.
Jimmy— “Pip” to those closest to him—cherished time spent with his family and friends. He took
great pride in his Ford Mustang, especially preparing it for car shows where he earned many
first-place trophies. He enjoyed countless trips to Mohegan Sun with his good friend Quee, and
after moving to Aquatic Way, he treasured the new friendship he formed with Bob and Wendy
Turner.
Before his illness, Jimmy could be found at Planet Fitness in the morning before going to daily
mass, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help—always in
his signature khaki shorts. His warm spirit, kindness, and humor made him loved by most, and
he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on April 9th at 10:00 a.m., with a
reception to follow.
