James Michael Hamilton, 35, of Gray passed away unexpectedly on 01 November 2022. James
was the youngest of three children born to Arthur Dean Hamilton and Denise Marie (Hersey). James
grew up in Gray and graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School.
James was a complex individual. He was mischievous, independent, stubborn, bright and
unfortunately was an addict.
His mischievous nature was evident at an early age shown when one night after everyone had
gone to sleep, he climbed out of his bedroom window, went around to the front door, and rang the
doorbell then climbed back into bed before anyone could answer.
His independent streak was a mile wide as displayed when around the age of six he took it upon
himself to crack a half dozen eggs and proceeded to make himself scrambled eggs in the microwave.
He was incredibly bright and had grasp on mathematics that puzzled his family. He was able to
calculate the answers to just about any given math problem in his head before other could even reach
for a pencil and paper. Ironically, he struggled with math classes as he was unable to show his work, he
just knew the answers.
He was possessed of a stubbornness that he shared with his siblings, however his stubbornness
often beat theirs such as when he would wrestle with his older brother, often would forcing him to give
up when he had James in a submission hold, because James would let you break his arm before he
would let you win.
James struggle with addiction was one that has become all too common. While it is an
uncomfortable subject to acknowledge, James family feel that taking the steps to de-stigmatizing
addiction is vital in making meaningful change in the way it is handled and are hopeful that doing so will
help others to overcome their own challenges with addiction.
He is predeceased by his father Arthur Dean Hamilton, and is survived by his son Aiden James
Hamilton; mother Denise Marie (Hersey) of Gray; as well as siblings Dean Arthur Hamilton of Lewiston
and Michelle Lynn Hamilton of Gray.
