Janet F. Palmer, age 81, passed away peacefully August 11, 2021 due to a long term illness. She was born July 27, 1940 in Dorchester, Massachusetts to Grace and James Casby. She married Richard Palmer of South Portland, Maine on June 6, 1968, who predeceased her on December 6, 2000.
Janet was a resilient, independent person who persevered in life. She enjoyed people, was quick to laugh, and loved to gab. She greatly enjoyed politics, boating and astrology and spent many years indulging each of her passions.
She raised her children in the 1970s and then worked at First Allied Home Health in the 1980s and the 1990s. She was proud of the work she did helping others. She became active in Cumberland County politics, working for various campaigns including campaigns for William Cohen and Ronald Reagan. One of her proudest moments was when she was a Maine State Elector for Ronald Reagan in 1984. On weekends she spent her time boating with her family in Casco Bay, and she was especially fond of Jewell Island. In the 1990s she started her own business, Astrological Insights, to share her love of astrology with others.
In the 2000s she moved to Gray, Maine and was later joined by her longtime companion Pat Wolfe. She loved Gray and the community she lived in. In later years when she became sick it was important to her that she stay in her own home until the end, and with the benevolent care of Hospice of Southern Maine and the efforts of her family she was able to realize her wish.
She is survived by her daughter, Janine Renee, her sons Robert and Russell, her daughters-in-law Laurie and Trista, her grandchildren Jason, Carson, Nate, Bowman, and Lyla; her companion of the past 16 years, Pat Wolfe; her brother Bill Razeto and her sister Donna Munro. She loved each member of her family, and she will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life in Janet’s memory will be held at a later time.
