John Joseph Cote, 64, of New Gloucester, Maine, passed away at home on October
12th. He loved computers, music, and spending time with the people who mattered
most to him.
John was born on December 31, 1960, in Hartford, Connecticut to Arthur and Francoise
(Bougie) Cote, who both predeceased him. He grew up in a large close-knit family in
Hartford, Connecticut and moved to Maine. Living with a large family taught him the
value of humor, connection, and good company. He carried those lessons into
adulthood, where he became known for his ability to talk with anyone and make them
feel welcome.
Throughout his life, John worked as a truck driver and a DJ — careers that allowed him
to travel, discover music, and engage with many different communities. He had a gift for
striking up conversation and making friends wherever he went.
John is survived by his siblings: brothers Paul (Brenda) Cote and Danny (Carmen) Cote
of Lewiston; and one sister, Joanne Michaud of Lewiston. He will also be dearly missed
by his nieces and nephews: Tasha, Jennifer, Amy, Lena, Rebecca, Marie, Matthew, and
Paul.
John had a soft spot for animals, especially his beloved cats, who were his loyal
companions. In honor of his love for pets, donations may be made to your local animal
shelter in lieu of flowers.
No formal funeral services are planned at this time, and a private family memorial will be
scheduled at a later date.
John touched many lives with his kindness and light-hearted nature. His family will
forever hold close the memories of his laughter, music, and the way he always showed
up with love.
