John Davenport Obituary

John Robert Davenport, 57, passed away unexpectedly at his home in New Gloucester ME on June 8, 2021. He was born on October 3, 1963 in Lewiston ME to Laurence Davenport and his wife Lorraine Fugere Davenport. 
 
John grew up in Gray ME. He attended Gray-New Gloucester High School and later SMCC in South Portland for a horticulture degree. 
 
In his earlier years, he worked with Maine Tennis Court of Gray ME. One of his proudest moments was installing a tennis court at the White House and receiving a private tour and donuts from Barbara Bush.
 
He was self-employed for a number of years as JD Carpentry. Other employers include: Pond Cove Millworks, Window Reps of Maine and most recently at L.L. Bean as a Boot Vamper having made specialty boot orders for the Olympics and Red Sox.
 
First and foremost John loved his family. He cherished his time spent with family and friends. He loved the great outdoors and all it had to offer. He loved hunting, especially with his youngest daughter Becky when she shot her first deer. Also gardening, snowmobiling and spending time in the kitchen. His favorite road trips were to Bar Harbor, traveling the Kancamagus Highway and times spent at the L.L. Bean Rangeley Camps.  Other travel included trips to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and North Carolina. 
 
He was the spitting image of his Dad. To follow in his father's footsteps as a pilot, his daughters gave him a treasured gift of flying lessons.  His daughter, Amanda had the courage to fly with her Dad on his first flying excursion. 
 
He is predeceased by his parents, sister Nancy and his favorite, beloved Uncle Eric.
 
John is survived by Meg, his wife of 10 years; his daughters Amanda Davenport-Lothrop (Matt Lothrop) of Lisbon, Rebecca Davenport (Partner, Joey Cousins) of Durham.  Former spouse Sandra Davenport.
 
He leaves behind his cherished Aunt Rose, who was his rock.
 
Miss Brady, John's beloved black lab/rottie, provided tremendous emotional support to him for the past 3 years. 
 
His Siblings: Rachel (Curly) Weeks of Poland, Ron (Debbie) Davenport of Naples, Diane (Rick) Morrison of New Gloucester and Danny Davenport of South Paris. 
 
Grandchildren: Griffin (10) and Declan (3) Lothrop
 
He is leaving behind many dearly loved nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Also survived by step-daughter Margaret Genthner, granddaughters Destinee, Ashley and Courtney Billings, great grandson Seth Frank and step-son, Robert Weymouth. 
 
John was known for his big heart and generosity.  No matter where he went he was the life of the party. He had a special place in the hearts of many people and will be greatly missed. 
 
There will be a Celebration of Life held on July 24, 2021 from 1-4pm at the Amvets Hall on Route 100 in New Gloucester.
