Joyce Alberta Bissett

WINDHAM - Joyce Alberta Bissett, born March 24, 1948, in Peterborough, New Hampshire,
passed away peacefully on April 30 th , leaving behind a legacy of quiet kindness, dedication, and
creativity.

The beloved daughter of Florence and Albert Merchant, Joyce was raised in Greenfield, New
Hampshire. Joyce graduated from Keene State College with a teaching certificate and went on to
devote her career to educating young learners in the Windham School Department. A dedicated
and compassionate teacher, Mrs. Bissett formed lasting bonds with her students, who felt seen,
supported, and inspired in her classroom. She had a special passion for bringing stories to life
through engaging read alouds, filling her classroom with energy and imagination, and inspiring
her students to love learning about science.

Though naturally introverted, Joyce revealed a gentle wit and understated humor to those who
knew her well, becoming deeply loved by her close circle of friends. Outside the classroom, she
found joy in crafting handmade jewelry. Joyce was also a rockhound and loved searching for
cool rocks and minerals all over. In her retirement, Joyce especially enjoyed breakfast or lunch
with friends, savoring good conversation and simple moments. She also enjoyed the occasional
“quick trip” to the casino to try her luck at the slot machines, quietly hoping the next spin might
just be the big one.

Joyce will be remembered through the memories she created with those closest to her, in the
curiosity of the students she inspired, and in the quiet beauty she found and created throughout
her life. Her presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege
of knowing her.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. Joyce wished to be remembered
privately by those who loved her. For those wishing to continue her commitment to a greater
