Judith Lee Libby Hilton
Judith passed unexpectedly on October 13, 2024 at her home in Pownal, ME. Judith loved
spending time with her family, friends, taking photographs, traveling, gardening and playing
scrabble with her college roommate.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 23, 1941 to Plaisted Leroy and June Comstock
Libby. The family moved around the country following jobs that her father would take as a ship
fitter and riveter. She had a deep love and respect for her parents and often would share stories
of growing up.
Judith attended Washington State Teacher’s College (University of Maine Machias) in 1963.
She had a brief stint teaching business education in Bar Harbor before moving to Portland,
Maine in 1967. She eventually made her way to Westbrook High School where to taught typing
and business education for 35 years.
She married Bruce Hilton of Brunswick in April of 1970. They both enjoyed many years of world
travel and adventures on cruises, but her trip to Africa remained one of her favorite trips. Judi
and Bruce welcomed their son, Christopher in 1972 and new adventures took place.
Judith retired from Westbrook High School in 2002 and welcomed her granddaughter, her
“papillon”, in 2005.
She is predeceased by her parents, Plaisted and June Libby and her husband Bruce of 36
years. Surviving family is her son Christopher and wife Carrie Hilton of New Gloucester and
granddaughter Morgan.
A commencement ceremony will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery-Mt.
Vernon in Augusta, Maine on November 7th at 10am in the chapel. She will be laid to rest next
to her beloved husband.
