Kathryn Fitzpatrick Obituary

August 29, 1935 - September 6, 2021

Kathryn Fitzpatrick (86) passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 6, 2021.

Kay was born in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, raised in a convent in Providence, Rhode Island, and fostered by the loving Cote family in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Kay then met and married the love of her life, Daniel Fitzpatrick, Sr., and they started their beloved family in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  She possessed a spirit of strength and determination throughout her life, right up to her last breath.  She was ever positive and smiling, rebounding from any challenge life presented.

Kay wore many hats. As a young woman she was the adored nanny to the Sullivan family of Wellesley who founded the New England Patriots, which instilled her lifelong love of football and the team. She also drove a school bus in Sudbury, Massachusetts, was a bookkeeper for the family automotive repair shop in Wellesley, and a materials manager for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

An avid bowler, she won many ten pin bowling trophies in Natick, Massachusetts and became a softball home run hitter in her forties on the Falmouth Bank & Trust's softball team.

Kay loved Cape Cod, tanning at the beach, being surrounded by family whenever possible, and was ever competitive in any game, especially Scrabble and Words with Friends. Later in life she cherished her time at Point Sebago Resort in Casco, Maine, lovingly known as "Queen of the Lake" by all her friends. Ever crafty, she had a talent for making holiday wreaths, tatting intricate lace, proudly making the lace for daughter Donna's wedding dress, and of course, knitting and crocheting.  For many years she was never seen without balls of yarn making baby blankets, hats, scarves, sweaters, or throw blankets for everyone.  It was an honor to get one of her Irish Knit sweaters with her personalized "Made with Love by Kay" tags inside. She loved cooking for a crowd, and her holiday meals and Sunday roast beef dinners were much anticipated and loved by all.

She was predeceased by her husband Daniel Fitzpatrick, Sr., son William Fitzpatrick, daughters Virginia Fitzpatrick and Ginny Tarver, and foster parents Alfred and Rose Cote.

As nothing meant more to her than her family, she will be dearly missed by her sister Yvette Baker, her daughter Donna Colpitts, her husband Kevin and their daughters Kayla, Chelsey and her partner Brian, and Aine and her partner Bobby; her son Daniel Fitzpatrick, Jr., his wife Deborah and their son Daniel and his wife Sharon, and daughter Erin Welch and her husband Raymond; her son Shawn Fitzpatrick and his wife Elizabeth; grandsons William Halloran and his wife Karen, Aaron Tarver and his wife Michelle, and Jason Tarver and his wife Patricia;, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends.

A memorial and graveside service is being planned for spring 2022 on Cape Cod. The family asks that you consider a donation to the following in lieu of flowers: Marlborough Senior Center, c/o of Patricia Pope, 40 New Street, Marlborough, MA 01752, or a favorite charity.
