We regretfully announce the unexpected passing of Leonard (“Lenny”) James Bisciglia, 76, of Gray, Maine on July 10th from heart disease.
Lenny was born in 1946 in the Bronx, New York to parents, John and Catherine Bisciglia. He was the first of four children and attended school in New York City. Right out of high school, Lenny started as a 9-1-1 supervisor at the NYPD, where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement. He also served his country for two years in the U.S. Marines with an honorable discharge.
An avid reader and history buff, he enjoyed traveling to historic landmarks, especially Civil War battlefields. He had a great memory for trivia, especially about classic movies—Lenny could name every old Hollywood actor in every bit part. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Mets, and playing horseshoes or bocce with friends. Lenny was very active in the church, both in the Bronx and here, serving as a deacon and volunteer for Vacation Bible School.
He could be soft-spoken, but Lenny had a keen mind, whether working his way through the crossword or participating in a spirited debate. And he always listened patiently with an open mind and a generous heart. We remember him most as a kind and gentle soul.
Lenny was predeceased by his mother, Catherine, and his father, John. He is survived by his brother, Stephen, his two sisters, Lori and Carol, as well as many extended family members and loving friends in Maine, Connecticut, and New York.
A viewing will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 13th, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 14th, at New Gloucester Bible Church, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the New Gloucester Bible Church or the Gray Fire Department.
