GRAY – Lewis Edward Verrill, 72, a lifelong resident of Gray, passed away February 8, 2024, from cardiac complications. Lewis was born January 30, 1952, the only child of Clyde and Amy Verrill.
He attended Gray-New Gloucester High School and earned his GED in 1992. After high school he was employed in various trades including construction worker, logger, equipment operator, brickyard worker, mechanic, automobile restoration, snowplow driver and truck driver. He was a jack of all trades.
Lewis was most at home in the outdoors. His wife Colleen often said, “If he got paid for hunting, we’d be millionaires.” When he was not fishing, hunting, trapping or plowing snow he could be found on his woodlot cut and processing wood for the upcoming winter.
Lewis’s wife of 46 years, Colleen, never quite knew what to expect as he had developed a reputation for being accident prone and wore the battle scars to prove it. After his neck was broken from a falling limb and his lip split open from a severe strike to the face from a fall while trapping, she developed a staunch appreciation when he arrived home unscathed. His red pickup was often not as lucky and wore the evidence of yet another mishap at the woodlot time and time again.
Together, Lewis and Colleen raised three amazing sons, James of Arizona, Jeremy of Windham and Joshua of Gray. He is survived by his very loved wife, Colleen, favorite daughter in law, Diana (Jeremy) his beloved aunt, Charlotte (soon to be 104!) of Raymond and his first cousin Sharon of Bath.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal services. His ashes will be spread in Upton, Maine where he enjoyed many seasons of hunting.
