Manford Rideout Obituary

Manford E. Rideout of Gray, Maine; beloved husband of Patricia F. Dakin Bernardo Rideout. He was born
in Houlton, Maine, September 28,1937. He was the son of Ear! and Laura (Ross) Rideout and grew up in
New Gloucester, Maine. He spent his youth at the Opportunity Farm in New Gloucester, Maine and at
the age of 17 joined the Marines and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a man of many talents.
After the military he owned his own remodeling business in Massachusetts. In 1978, he brought his family
back to his home state of Maine where he worked for H.P. Hood driving 18-wheelers and then Sure Winner
Foods where he was distribution manager until his retiring in 2000. He was able to be in the movie The
Great Gatsby and drove his antique Model T Ford as a cab driver where he and his wife met Robert Redford
and Mia Farrow. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cabin in Phillips, Maine. Since his retirement, he
enjoyed building model planes; some he built without plans. At 78 years old he sky-dived with his son
and two of his granddaughters. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Arline K. Rideout; a son, Allen in
infancy and a brother, William Rideout. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 54 years, nine children, 24
grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. His surviving children are Kevin Rideout (Lisa), Windham, ME;
Steven Rideout (Cindy) of New Gloucester, ME; Elaina Koltz (Gary), Greenleaf, Wl; Debra Cote (Gregory)
of New Gloucester, ME; Manford C. Rideout (Stacey) of Portland, ME; Patricia Madden (Daniel) of Norton,
MA; Julie Flaherty (Christopher) of Foxboro, MA; Bernard J. Bernardo (Julie) of New Gloucester, ME;
Annette Hotham (Charles) of Fort Meyers, FL; He will be missed by Max, his faithful dog. In lieu of flowers,
please send any donations to St. Gregory's Church, Parish of the Holy Eucharist, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth, Maine 04105 in memory of Manford Rideout.
Manford will be waked at Wilson Funeral Home in Gray, Maine, on Wednesday, July 7 from 4pm - 8pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Gregory's in Gray, Maine, on Thursday at 10:00 am. Internment will be
held at Lower Gloucester Cemetery.in New Gloucester Maine.
