Marlene Bowen

April 21, 1936 ~ June 19, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Obituary

Marlene Bowen, 87, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 19, 2023.  Marlene was one of nine children and spent most of her life on Chebeague Island, where she worked on the rescue and became Deputy Chief, known as Medic 5.  She also worked at the Chebeague Island Commons and the Slow Bell Cafe.

On the island is where she met and later married the love of her life Med Bowen. They were married for fifty-seven wonderful years. They had three daughters, Sheryl, Terry and Linda, son in law Steve, six grandchildren, Travis, Lynn, Chad, Sonya, Kenny, and Brett, two great grandchildren Owen and Riley as well as several nieces and nephews.  Her family meant everything to her, and she was more than happy to be the central figure in their lives. She was a star in the eyes of her family and that is all that mattered to her.

Lead singer of the band The Wagoneers, she was legendary for singing the song "Crazy".  Marlene adored all animals but especially loved her dog Isabelle, aka Izzy.  In her free time, you could find her painting pictures or crocheting blankets for friends and family.  In her younger days she would ride her horse, Beau Baker, around Chebeague Island.

Marlene’s heart was made of gold, and she would do anything for her loved ones.  She was fierce, full of love and undeniably a hero to so many people. Marlene was the rock and foundation of her family, and she will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Gray Rescue or SPCA Global Animal Rescue.

There will be no Funeral at Her Request.
