Gray- Merlin (Merle) was called home to be with the Lord on March 30th, 2021. He was born on February 4, 1938 in Woodstock, New Brunswick Canada. He graduated from Carleton County Vocational School in 1957 and was Number 1 in a class of 37 graduates. Merlin was employed for 5 years at the Royal Bank of Canada, working in Woodstock then in Goose Bay Labrador, then Montreal, Quebec. He then moved to Auburn, Maine in 1963 and was employed by the Canal Bank and Portland Saving Bank as Branch Manager at Congress Square, Kittery, and North Windham. He joined the Portland ToastMasters Club to improve Public Speaking and later the Kittery Lions Club. Mr. McLean served as president of the American Institute of Banking ( AIB). After service on the board and after studying many banking courses and attending District Leaders Conferences (DLC’s) in Manchester N.H., New Port, R.I. and St. Louis, MO.
Merlin later joined Mark Stimson Real Estate Company in Gray for 3 years then was self-employed buying smaller houses, renovating and selling them. He also built 9 modular homes and sold them. After his real estate career, he worked at L.L. Bean in Customer Service for 18 years.
Merlin went to a one room Schoolhouse in Hartford, Waterville, Jacksonville Hannal School and Lindsay then moved to the Town of Woodstock in 1952. He became a Christian at the age of 14 in 1952. Under the preaching of Rev Hyman Appleman, and was Baptized at Woodstock United Baptist Church in May of 1955. Merlin enjoyed many games like horseshoes, ping pong with Dr. Reg Dunlap, Water Skiing, Oil Painting, perennial gardening, making high quality bird feeders and watching birds at bird feeders.
He was previously married to Ruth Audrey Ebett in 1963 and they have three children, Sandra Ruth, Timothy Dean, and Sara Ann Plummer. Four grandchildren, Casey, Jesse Lyons, Chandler McLean and Lauren Wojtysiak and three great grandchildren; Judah, Stella Lyons and Julia Lyons.
He married Merlinda Mag-usara from the Philippines in 2013. He is the son of Arthur Good McLean and Violet Evelyn Tompkins. He is predeceased by a brother, Willard Cecil and a sister Norma Edith.
Merlin is survived by his wife Merlinda, three Children, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Three brothers; Arnold Frederick, Allen Glenn, and Harold Andrew. Three sisters; Marie Ann Shaw, Joan Aline Boone, and Verna May McArthur. Several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday April 10 at the Bible Believe Baptist from 2 to 3 pm. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at the Church. The Memorial Service will be officiated by Jared Betts
