Natalie Evelyn Blake
Natalie Blake, aged 91, of Gray, Maine, passed away at the Casco Inn Retirement
Home in February 2026. She was born in Manchester, NH, on June 9, 1934, to Evelyn
Showers and Leon Blake. A graduate of Manchester High School West in 1952, she
pursued her passion for healthcare by earning a nursing degree from Elliot Hospital
School of Nursing in Manchester. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
from the University of New Hampshire in 1966.
Natalie began her career as a psychiatric nurse at Jackson Brook Institute in South
Portland, ME. In 1966, she earned a Master of Science from the University of Southern
Maine. Demonstrating lifelong commitment to personal growth, she returned to
academia in 2010 to receive a Master of Arts in Theology from Bangor Theological
Seminary. She graduated at State Street UCC and was ordained at East Baldwin
Congregational Church, where she served for several years before joining North
Deering Congregational Church. Natalie retired from ministry in 2025 at the age of 91.
Beyond her ministerial responsibilities, Natalie was an active member of the Gray
community. She participated in multiple committees dedicated to town improvement and
engaged in Bible studies with the local Congregational Church. Even at 87, she
remained socially involved through daily walks and driving herself to community events.
Natalie contributed to the town’s “Life-long Living Committee,” which launched a yard
clean-up initiative for seniors, and advocated for enhanced transportation options for
older residents. Her service extended to the Fire Department Ladder Truck Committee,
where she recognized and addressed public safety needs. Natale traveled extensively
as a young women including living in Thailand for a short period of time She was an
avid supporter of the University of Southern Maine Huskie sports program and loved
watching the Boston Red Sox.
Natalie’s dedication and community spirit left a lasting impact on those around her.
Natalie was predeceased by her husband Robert Edward McGovern and her brother
Edward Blake. She is survived by her nephews Jonathan of Monmouth and Geoffrey of
York.
