Phyllis Lorraine Hawkes (Courbron), aged 80, passed away on April 27, 2024 at 2:58 A.M. at
Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Maine. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister,
grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Phyllis was born on January 18, 1944 at the family home in North Yarmouth, Maine. She also
spent her formative years in North Yarmouth, where she graduated from Greely High School in
1962
. She worked as a manager at various retail stores throughout the Portland and Lewiston areas,
but decided to quit working to take care of her sick husband until he died in 1996.
More than anything, Phyllis was known as a devoted friend, sister, wife, mother, and
grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, and was always there to offer guidance,
support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges the family faced.
In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed music, and
taught herself to play the harmonica, piano, organ, and accordion. She was a woman of immense
faith in God, and was an active member in her local church.
Phyllis is survived by two of her children, Shari Peterson of New Gloucester, Maine and Craig
Courbron of Rapid City, South Dakota. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Timothy
Courbron, Elizabeth Courbron, Russell Courbron, Ryan Courbron, Reagan Courbron, and
Mathieu Courbron; her siblings Jerry Burrows, Billy Burrows, Bobby Burrows, Dottie Cormier,
Paula Slipp, Joyce Perry, and Anita Wiers; her second husband, Gregory Hawkes; and two
great–grandchildren, Ben Courbron and Autumn Courbron. She was predeceased by her son,
Scott Courbron; her grandson, Andrew Courbron; her siblings Danny Burrows, Ruth Burrows,
Sylvia Burrows, Betty Bendixon, Kathy Liberty, and Dora Wiers; and first husband, Roland
Courbron. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Visiting hours and a short funeral service will be held for family and friends on May 1, 2024
beginning at 6:00 P.M. at Wilson Funeral Home in Gray, Maine.
