Richard Hamlin Obituary

Gray – Richard A. Hamlin, 76, passed away on Friday, August 5 th , 2022, at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his wife and family. Born at his family home on the farm in Thorndike to Edmund and Barbara Hamlin on November 18 th, 1945, Richard was the 6 th of ten children, and now rejoins his younger brother Phil, who passed away in late 2020.

Richard joined the Army in 1963 and served 4 years, during which he was stationed in Germany, and ended his service in Key West, FL. In 1966, while home on leave, he met the love of his life, Jeanette McLellan, and they were married on November 18 th , 1967, in Raymond. They happily shared the next 54 ½ years together. He owned and operated Hamlin’s Sunoco in Windham from 1971 through 1981, when he went to work at Palmer Spring Company in Portland, where he worked for the next 40 years. He was forced to retire earlier this year due to health reasons. He greatly enjoyed working, and would have worked for another 40 years if he’d have been able to. He had also spent several years with the Windham Lions Club, having served as President, and had been raised to the 3 rd degree of Freemasons.

Family meant a lot to Richard, and he enjoyed getting together with his siblings for dinner at a restaurant monthly, and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his three grandchildren. He enjoyed going out to breakfast with his wife, and going shopping together. He was always willing to help both family and friends, and always put other’s needs before his own. Richard enjoyed getting Megabucks tickets and scratch tickets twice a week. His favorite things were going hunting with his brother Harry, mowing the lawn, and watering his vegetable garden. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, and loved the Red Sox.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jeanette, his two sons, Michael and Patrick, daughter in-law Amy, three grandchildren, Avery, Oliver, and Emily, along with eight siblings, their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews.
