Robert “Brad” Hersey
Gray- Robert Hersey lost his battle with kidney disease on September 3, 2018 at his home. He was born December 4, 1942 in Boston, Mass., son of the late Robert H. and Mary E. (Grant) Hersey. He grew up moving between Mass. and Maine. He graduated from Deering High School and Bentley College. He was a staff accountant at Maine Medical Center for nearly 40 years, retiring to spend time with his beloved grandchildren and to be involved with their activities and sports.
In July of 1971 he married the former Nancy Farr of West Paris and they have a daughter Merredith.
He enjoyed many hobbies over the years, square dancing (where he met his future wife) vegetable gardening, home brewing, going on Cruises, bowling, mentoring youth bowling, watching and coaching youth soccer and in later years, collecting wines from the wineries around New England. His greatest love was his family and particularly his four grandchildren. He was very involved in his church, serving in many capacities over the years and he also served nine years on the Gray Planning Board.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Gray; daughter Merredith and companion Vincent Pike Jr also of Gray; Alexa Stigman of Waterville, Emily, Taylor, and Robert Pike all of Gray. Four siblings, DonnaLee Phillips of Eureka, Ca., James and wife Linda of Waldorf, MD, Susan and husband Ray Laffely of Windham and Stephen and his wife Robin Esterberg of Waltham, Mass, several nieces and nephews, an Aunt Evelyn Keegan of Texas, and many, cousins.
A Celebration of his life will be held at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church 40 Windham Center Road in Windham on Tuesday September 11 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be sent: c/o Patriot Soccer Club P.O. Box 210 Gray, Me where he volunteered many hours over the years as he followed the grandkids and was named club Volunteer of the year in 2010.
