It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy M. Blanchard, 64, who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 30th at Maine Medical Center in Portland Maine.
Roy is survived by his daughter Jessica and her husband Joshua and grandson Brody, Brother David and wife Sue, sister Sue and nephews Ron, Chris, Randy and great nephew Kamden, as well as extended family Laurie, Jenna and her two boys Austin and Charlie.
Roy was predeceased by his mom and dad; Roy and Marilyn Blanchard.
Roy was born in Dover, New Hampshire, lived in Pennsylvania and Texas prior to moving to Maine where he spent the majority of his childhood in Gray. Growing up Roy loved spending time with his brother and sister exploring the outdoors and finding endless shenanigans to fill their time. They spent many days enjoying Gray Animal Farm, now the Maine Wildlife Park.
Roy graduated from Gray New Gloucester High school in 1976. He enjoyed playing sports while in school and continued this by joining various softball leagues and pick-up wiffle ball games as an adult. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs and was a season ticket holder for the Maine Mariners.
Roy recently retired from Nichol’s Portland having worked there for 34 years. Roy was a generous, yet thrifty guy. He loved milling around Willows flea market and yard sales looking for a special find. He was an amazing artist with a creative mind and enjoyed doing word searches and crossword puzzles.
Roy held close his favorite weekend routines with his brother David. A Sunday dump run, McDonalds hash browns and then a trip to the Oxford Casino, loser buys breakfast. He also enjoyed spending time at his brother’s camp in Upper Enchanted Township in Jackman Maine.
Roy always had a story to tell, a funny joke, a supportive ear to listen to and a generous heart. Your presence always brought laughter and a smile. Robby…Chico…Heebs…Fatha…Papa Roy - we love you and will continue to miss you until we meet again.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Roy’s memory may be made to the Maine Wildlife Park, 56 Game Farm Rd. Gray, Maine 04039
Per Roy’s wishes there will be no service, however, we will be holding a celebration of life at the Harraseeket Inn 162 Main St, Freeport, ME 04032 on Saturday, November 19 from 1-4pm.
